AMOS

What is AMOS?  A Mid-Iowa Organizing Strategy

AMOS is a non-partisan, grass roots community organization that works through area churches and social service institutions.   AMOS pursues community issues arising from one-to-one conversations and small group meetings known as house meetings. These issues are explored through in-depth research to develop possible solutions.  AMOS then acts publicly, using the power of organized people to lead decision-makers to implement the best solution for all involved.  AMOS brings ordinary people together to craft creative solutions to the real issues that impact central Iowa families.

There are AMOS groups in Des Moines and Ames.  Members of OLIH and other area churches are working to develop an AMOS group in Ankeny.

Our purpose is to identify justice issues within the Ankeny community, research these issues and propose solutions. Issues could be community-wide or just within our faith community, but would be addressed only if we can create workable solutions.  Too often we are too busy just getting “stuff” done, and not busy enough addressing the real issues in our lives and the lives of those we love.

There is no better time than the present for YOU to get involved. As Pope Francis has stated:  “An authentic faith always implies a deep desire to change the world.”
